Correction for the sake of accuracy. You did stipulate there were two you didn't have. I can't for the life of me remember which two but it was not the jc press or Kelly Hodge.

Knights is way too close to etsu, sir. Not knowing the property lines i would hate to stumble accidently over on the etsu line and get arrested.

I hope things are going well for you.

I think we need a full group meeting of all posters on this board at Knights. Let's all get together and share opinions there. I somewhat agree with Pitt about good ole face-to-face conversations. After all, we are all wanting what's best for ETSU and the success of our program, right?

I would love to meet with you at Knight's! I usally eat there on game days either before or after the game.

Right? Absolutely - what's best for ETSU, not what's best for a few at the expense of the many. This athletic model ain't working, and has proven to be a rather miserable failure these last nine years - given all the money that is being spent for the results derived. ETSU still holds the distinction, over the last decade, of being the ONLY state, regional university to be FORCED out of its athletic conference of which it was a prime member for 28 years. And, not one other regional, state university has even looked at this model, much less adopted it. In fact, all have run from it, leaving ETSU isolated and holding the proverbial bag. There is no athletic future for ETSU athletics with this current model!

I'd love to meet with you for the meeting you propose, Mike. You know I don't hate you.

But frankly after you tried to get me to sign something that wasn't true, I'm going to have to take Gold's word instead of yours.

The thing is, the people who have stepped forward and put their name beside their posts have been targeted by ETSU and punished. I am extremely skeptical that such a meeting wouldn't be for the purpose of trying to do the same to ETSU fans whose views don't allign with the athletic department's.

Heres the deal, nobody in the local media is going to ask "Gotcha" questions to any coach or the AD. You obviously think this is a problem. I disagree.

The news media's job in my opinion is to tell the facts. It is not their job to sway opinions one way or another. Futher, their access to the school depends on relationships. If you burn these relationships, you will get less facts and less quotes and thus will be less able to do your real job. You know exactly how that works.

I think they do cover stories that make the administration look bad sometimes. They cover when the baseball field isnt completed on time, they covered the soccer field issues at the time, they covered the 20k shot this year, etc. What you would prefer is say something like: "There were 3,000 people in attendance to tonight's game, though we used to have 5-6k at each game before Stanton pulled football and destroyed the athletic department." Or "the soccer field is just completed and looks nice, but lets ask the AD why they cant play in a hay field so that we can have a basketball arena first" I simply do not think that is their job.

I'm not trying to necessarily get people to speak ill of others. The idea here is to be constructive, and if someone wants to say they appriciate the sense of humor Jay Sandos brings to the play-by-play or they like Kelly Hodge's low key approach or whatever, so be it.

I will only say that one person's "gotcha" question is another person's follow-up or legitimate question. For instance, just to use something from the past, I think "Why was Tiras Wade suspended?" would be a good question. But you might say it is "gotcha" because we're trying to find out what Wade did wrong.

Okay, I've now had Gold and Pitt both basically make accusations about me personally, my character, my word and my honesty (sorry this always has to apparently happen to posters on here as part of every discussion thread). I object to it all, but that's really all I can say ... it's a he said, he said, he said.

As for the references to past issues, it's not fair to either of you guys to discuss those situations in a public forum. And I won't.

OK, that being said ...

As for the idea that a meeting would be under some sort of surveillance, that's just silly. Honestly ... come on. Any type of group gathering would be to allow for the type of dialogue that I think many on this board have been asking for -- a respectful, sensible sharing of ideas, thoughts, and opinions. All of this would be under the premise that we are moving forward, that there is a new president who will be shaping a new direction for the entire university (including athletics), and that bring this "broken" family back together needs to happen yesterday.

I do agree with Slappy on this one thing ... there needs to be a respect in all of this. Any type of burn them at the stake approach will simply will be D.O.A.

I hope the majority on this site can see this proposal as a legitimate and good faith request. And Gold, I can assure you Knight's is not on university property (I think the million beers on tap is a give away on that). 04-cheers

The idea of folks meeting in an open forum to truly discuss their feelings about ETSU athletics is a great idea. It shouldn't just be a meeting at Knight's or wherever, but a full blown "town hall" meeting with Dr. Noland, members of this board, the football foundation, and other alumni. Have it at the Carnegie or some other location.
Or perhaps this informal gathering could be used as a stepping stone to this type of a more formal deal, but folks cannot be afraid to speak out on their true feelings, and that includes employees of the university, alumni, members of the community, etc...
