Wasnt me, I am tapped out.
Hmmm...was hoping it was Michael Turner, Larry English, or Doug Free. They've been collecting big paychecks as of late.
That would be sad as the 99k-25k donation requests have been open since homecoming...that would mean that very few are stepping up.
Twenty-four people donating 25k has more promise for the future of our program than two or three 300-200k donations only from NFL players along with no other people stepping up.

How do people even know about the donating opportunities? Have letters and brochures gone out to the donor base? Phone calls?

I'd like to see everyone giving back, but we need to stop assuming that the NFL guys are so loaded that they can cut huge checks to athletics. Turner has a lot more yards in the rearview mirror than he does in front of him. English, unfortunately, won't be making anything other than a make-good deal once his rookie contract is up.
We have NIU alumni who have WAY more money than the football players that always get mentioned, and they're people who's earning potential doesn't get severely curtailed once they turn 30.
I think they should give back to the university who put them in position to earn those paychecks, but we can't simply assume that they have a hundred grand to fork over, so they should.

Other than the request for funding on the website I think they are running a more passive fundraising campaign. They know that times are tough and really aren't going to come out asking for money directly. They are giving us information on how this will improve athletics, why it is needed, where we can go for more info or who to call if we are interested in opportunities to give.
I think it is rather amazing 90.5% of the money has already been pledged in less then 4 months. My WAG is that us little people donating $1-$24,999 could make up between 300-500k so we really need about 1mil more. We will see if the BOT allows the ground breaking to happen this spring with such a good showing so far.

Correct. Even Sam Hurd had to get a second job.

So, basically the little people will get solicitations for bricks. I can live with that.
How different this campaign is from the Yordon Center, where they solicited donations in the $1,000 - $10,000 range with nice brochures and offered wall tiles and names in the foyer.

Good point. Gotta find a way to make ends meet.

Definitely we are in different financial times and it was a different administration too. How many higher up people are still left over from 2005? Doubt it is more than one or two.

RE: 8.2 Million for Chessick Center
Been curious about the timing. From today's presser....
On the impact of the upcoming Chessick Practice Center
"It's a big deal, because people have used it against us in the past. I know last year it was used against us on the road, they way we practice, under certain conditions. They can't talk about that now. By the spring of this class' freshman year, that facility is going to be close to wrapping up its construction. To be able to show those pictures and talk about it in the homes with those recruits and for it to be a reality and not just a dream is a huge deal."
