Personally I agree with you (well I think they are nostalgic not dumb but whatever). I think ECU has potential to make such a run but has not found the right coach that is either willing to stay for a long while or can train people below so you can hire from within and continue to win. That is the non-game related part of the Boise model.

I'm not looking for independence, but I can see where some of the older crowd "nostalgic" crowd would want this. 2 reasons.
1. as independents we had a schedule that was pretty exciting from top to bottom. I think this indirectly helped our recruiting as players went up against Syracuse, Florida State, VA Tech etc. instead of what most consider substandard teams.

2. everyone always talks about the bottom dwellers in cUSA as being a negative and holding SOS down for the others. As an independent, you schedule who you want "or can get" instead of those "so called bottom dwellers" weakening the SOS.

Personally, the Alliance is where we are at, the others will be gone, and I'm ready for the 2012 season to start............in 8 months.

For number one how many of the teams, per year, were those teams? You do play those teams now at least once if not two or more times. So unless you were playing a lot more of those teams per year I don't think it is much different.

For number 2 same issue. What were your schedules back then? I bet there were bottom dwellers then too but you just don't think of it as much since they were not on your schedule every year (you would replace them with another cellar dweller).

Granted I know I am asking you this question but you are not the one saying you should go independent but still I wonder what those old schedules were like. I also wonder how much those schedules would be feasible now. For instance some teams that they played back then may not now (at least like they did) since they have moved into bigger conferences (or are no longer independent).

I definitely agree with you that a conference is the best for you whether it be Alliance or not.
