He knows that it was not only ND who voted no to the ESPN extension, it was a number of BE schools who thought they were lining up a bigger payday through NBC/Comcast.
If Pitt and Syracuse posters are honest, they will admit it. Many were extolling the refusal of the ESPN extension a few weeks ago and looking forward to the bidding war between NBC, ESPN and Fox.
Then...Pitt and Syracuse bolted. The crap Boeheim is spewing is revisionist history. He has just always hated ND and wants to rip them for something that is not factual.
Ask him why Rev. John Jenkins was there at the ceremony when TCU was announced? ND had played a big part in getting TCU into the Big East. I believe that all the BE football schools had agreed to Father Jenkins being on the football expansion committee. He may have even been the chairman.
I wouldn't believe Jim Boeheim if he said the sky was blue.
I agree with most of what you say, Terry. I still think passing on the ESPN offer was the right thing to do and the Big East may yet be saved and get a better deal. It may also cause teh split som many others want. However, being cowtowed by ESPN benefitted no one other than ESPN.
I also think that Syracuse and Pitt would probably have left as the ESPN offer was not significantly higher than what the ACC gets. Please recall that I an not a fan of the ACC and have been harsh on them, so I am only now accepting the move.
I differ only in that JB is often taken out of context. I think JB was pointing out the irony that if ND wanted to help out but could easily have joined in football which would have made anyone think before jumping conferences. I don't think there is as much animosity as the press would have us believe.
NOTRE DAME SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED FOR THIS FIASCO!!!!
Notre Dame joined in all sports but football and the Big East accepted that. To begrudge Notre Dame their deal with the Big East is to be intellectually dishonest. The ACC has rejected the same deal with ACC, from what I've read, as has the B1G.
I will miss the Big East. We were a big, disfunctional family, but a family nonetheless. Blaming Notre Dame, Syracuse, Pitt or any one or two schools is just wrong.
