I have read this board as well as many others over the years. I have never bothered to create an account before, so I guess you should feel honored (I say that jokingly) that I decided to finally join the message board world to ask ECU fans this question.

My question has several layers, or rather several questions rolled into one request for answers, so bear with me:

For years now I have seen ECU fans talk about joining the Big East and how they would like to be in the Big East, yet constantly trash talk the Big East. Why trash something you want to be a part of so badly? I also read over and over how ECU fans feel if they were to join the Big East that they would dominate it. The reasoning is always the same... "if we could recruit as a BCS school imagine what we could do." Can some one explain that thinking to me? Several BCS schools have solid followings but do not dominate their conference. Further, ECU has never dominated Conference USA. You have the most solid fan support in CUSA, but all other things being equal with the other 11 CUSA schools, you have never dominated CUSA. Your recruiting is certainly no worse than any other team in CUSA.

Yet some how, even though you have never dominated your own conference, moving to the Big East would be a breeze for ECU to just move in and dominate. ECU finished with a losing record last year. I don't believe ECU has ever ran the table in conference play in CUSA. Even when you won back to back titles in CUSA, you didn't go undefeated in the conference. And you have failed to win CUSA way more times than you have won it. Boise State, Utah, TCU and Hawaii all have BCS appearances as non-BCS schools, but not ECU. And I know you will follow that up with that one time win against Boise State... which in ECU language means you are the superior program. Okay fine, your mind is made up on that. Congrats. But UL-Monroe beat Alabama about 4 years ago. Does that also mean they are a superior program to Bama because of a one-time win?

ECU, according to ECU fans is a sleeping juggernaut. The Big East, Tobacco Road and the BCS all conspire to keep you down out of fear you will rise up and dominate them. Yeah, we know all that stuff too.

That still doesn't account for the lack of undefeated seasons in CUSA conference play, or 10-win seasons overall. Or particularly the lack of BCS bowl appearances that even Hawaii was able to pull off.

I mean, you are this diamond in the rough program that apparently just needs BCS affiliation to achieve greatness, right? What better way to get noticed than to actually start winning big on the field instead of by the water-cooler? Where is your Boise State/TCU style run of double-digit win seasons?

Where is this domination of equal and lesser programs in CUSA that somehow in your minds suggests to you that you would dominate the Big East, the conference you love to trash, but can't wait to be a part of?

I know there has been a lot of coaching tunrover in the last 10 years at ECU, but a lot of other schools have coaching turnovers occur fairly often and they continue to field winning teams year after year.

And I know you guys like to brag about what a tough nonconference schedule you face... and I give you that, you do schedule a decent amount on BCS teams from time to time... but it isn't like you are playing Ohio State, Oklahoma and LSU every year.

So what is the deal? Why is it that you can't dominate CUSA, but you believe you will somehow all of the sudden be able to dominate the Big East?

Based on your logic all of the CUSA cupcakes left on last realignment since that was the last time anyone made it through CUSA undefeated in-conference. Hell, we could use the same logic on the Big East. Why can't anyone run the table with that soft schedule where zero teams finished in the top 25 while 2 did in CUSA.... thanks for playing
