Children learn at an early age that competition with their closest peers is something that can’t be avoided. Much the same with the universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a heated rivalry lives on between all 14 NCAA Division I institutions.

Virginia Commonwealth University has long been known as one of the best athletic programs in the state and 2009-10 was no different for the Rams with three conference championships and five trips to the NCAA postseason.

All the accolades and success throughout the year landed VCU as the top program on the women’s side and second overall in the Virginia Sports Information Director’s All-Sports Title. The University of Virginia (.693 overall) is the only school to top the Black & Gold (.608 overall). They were the only two state schools to finish above the .600 winning percentage mark in 2009-10.
