Scoring in the paint
There's been all kinds of problems with scoring in the paint. Two years ago (before Shaun), we couldn't put in a basket in the paint to save our lives. Shaun's brought a little presence but he isn't the answer. Bringing in Cornett and Allison were the obvious choices however we all know the story on Cornett and Allison is unproven to say the least.

Coach has tried recruiting a big man inside but is running into difficulties. What are your thoughts?

Work in progress. Depends on how Whipple and Nickerson improve this year.. As for the future I think we'll be ok.. Mitchell and Cornett/Allison will give us some help...along with Green if we keep him.

What do you think about Shaun being down low? I think he's better on the outside shooting jumpers and the occaisonal 3... at the same time, he's the only one who's going to get a rebound each time he wants to work for it. Wooten has to time it right to have a chance. When he does though, it's hard to stop as well. I'm sure jumping around like that takes its toll as the season wears on.

I was impressed with Stegall as a post player when we played you guys. I can remember on several occasions him backing down Nuckles and scoring at will. He's an extremely difficult matchup. I think he's one of the best PF's in the league.

RE: Scoring in the paint
Stegall is best in the post and not in the perimeter in my opinion. Getting quality post players is a difficult thing for a low-major team as you can see with pretty much all of the teams in the ASun. It looks like Ingle is trying to stock up on big men for the future, but it will be a year or two more until that starts showing some success. Stegall is a stop gap that has to put his finger in the dam so to speak. Nickerson is a solid scorer in the post, but he is undersized...Whipple has a lot of athletic ability, but needs to work on his basketball sense. I think by the middle of next season we will start to see some solid post play...this year we will just have to hope that one of our guys can step up and help Nickerson and Stegall man the post. Whipple could be the guy, and perhaps has more potential than Nickerson, but he needs to put in a lot of work on his game.

And while it hurts that Cornett might be out this year (from the talk on the boards) it could be a hidden blessing for his overall development, as he will get an extra year to gain strength and work on his approach to the game. By Cornett's senior year, I think he is going to be something special.

RE: Scoring in the paint
I agree with Kennesawbasketball on the fact that Stegall is best in the post. We will see what happens... I have not heard a lot of stuff about Allison but who knows I have yet to really see him play so he could be good but he is a stick! needs to hit the gym and eat everything in sight. If Green actually comes next year I have heard the combo of him and mitchell will be out of this world. This year I think we will be fine. Stegall should have a great senior season and nickerson had a great season last year for not having played basketball for what 4 years or something? Whipple was a frosh down low last year so i am expecting him to take that athletic ability to the next level this year.

Agreed. Good post. We are good enough to survive this year but have the potential to be really steady in the post in the near future. Good luck to Cornett on a speedy recovery...Hope rehab goes well and he can spend some more time getting ready for a breakout reason.

Has their been anything to substantiate the Cornett rumor? Obviously there hasn't been a release...just wondering, as sometimes these injury things can get blown out of porportion.
