I've heard bandied about around the metro that there's a possibility OU might be featured on the cover of SI's College Football Preview issue.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Look, not that I want to keep the Sooners down, but the way I see it, its for their own good.

Remember, the same week the unbeatable Sooners were featured on SI's cover in 1957, the famous Bud Wilkinson win streak got snapped (thankyouverymuch Notre Dumb).

I've got a terrific idea for SI -- Put Texas on the cover. Of course, Chrissie Sims and Co. will suck anyway. No jinx needed.

I don't honestly know which rag is going to feature the Sooners on their cover. If not SI, probably the Sporting News, maybe ESPN Mag. I dunno which. Those two I probably wouldn't be quite as worried about a jinx.

Come to think of it, early this year the subject of the SI cover was ... The Jinx itself, personified by an adorable jet-black cat. The feature article was about all the weird coincidences involving athletes -- including some tragic accidents involving a skiier (paralyzed), an Olympic ice skater (killed, along with her teammates in an aeroplane crash), and a race car driver (killed) in the 1950s and 1960s shortly after their cover appearances.

Perhaps SI thought that by featuring The Jinx on the cover that The Jinx itself would be, well, jinxed?

I've yet to determine if, since that feature story, if The Jinx has made itself manifest again. It seems like since Trevor Hoffman (San Diego Padres) appeared on the cover some weeks ago, that he's slipped up a few times ... and the Pads kinda suck this year.
