oh jeez silly me. i mean you must know more then me about my team? i mean i only work in the athletic department. have attended all the home games since turner battle and co were freshman and over half the away games, not to mention frequenting their practices. i mean you have all of what, reading article written by "experts" who have maybe seen our team play 4-5 games per year and are feeding into the hype that our school created over turner battle. oh and maybe you've seen 4-5 of the games they've played in over the course of their career.
GFarrow84 Wrote:I think that Buffalo is going to surpise the hell out of all of you this year. I, like many UB fans had little to no hope going into this season. But I think that were actually a BETTER team this year. We are more athletic and skilled at almost every position. Yassin got quicker and regained that soft touch he had freshman year. Parnell can't electrify a crowd like Bortz could with his aleyoop dunks but hes a much more solid defender, rebounder, jump shooter, and finisher. What we lost with Turner has more then been replaced by Middleton. Middleton is a better shooter, better defender, better rebounder. We'll all miss Turner's finishing ability when you put it in his hands at the end of the game, but hopefully with a better team it won't be close anymore. Cage, I think everybody knows about him.
We'll see. Very few teams improve a year after losing the conference POTY and 6th man of the year. Especially without bringing in any big time talent (i.e. a really, really sought after player). It's easy to look much improved when you are playing mediocre competition. The Fresno game was nice, but don't forget the embarassment BC laid on you. That was the same BC team that OU basically played to a draw in two closed scrimages.
The big key overall is that our team defense has improved ten fold as quickness and rebounding have improved. I know we've had more offensive rebounds then a team had defensive rebounds at least once this season and came close at least one other time. Also, our team seems to get almost every loose ball out on the floor.
Our freshman are playing quality minutes. Gamble is a big time player, would have been at a big east school if we hadn't gotten him to commit before his senior year. Robinson plays smart, doesn't make mistakes. Redemption is going to be sweet at the Gund this year.
And zibby, relax. Nobody is going to come on here and hand the MAC title to us after we beat a team on our home cour after they traveled all the way from Cali. Would you come on here and congratulate Ohio if they beat FSU? Probably not...
Anyway look out MAC, the bulls aren't going anywhere this season.
Middleton is not better than Battle. Battle was the best player in your program's history. It's highly unlikely Parnell is better than Bortz.
I still don't see Buffalo as more than a .500 MAC team and finishing (at best) 4th in the East. That having been said, I hope they continue to win OOC.
i mean he was a good player but come on. How many wins did we have before yassin showed up as a freshman? our offense was stagnant and awful until we had a center who could stretch out the D by being capable from 3. what did we have before he came, 5 wins? and who lead us to a few of those wins that 5 year season - probably a player youve never heard of one of our best recruits ever - bj walker, not turner battle. yes battle was a great player. yes he was the best player image wise to come through our program.
these are facts:
Parnell is better then Bortz all around, hands down. ask anyone who knows anything about the UB team and they will tell you this.
Middleton IS a better jump shooter then macs love child turner battle
Middleton IS a better rebound
Middleton IS a better on the ball defender.
(battle was a better ball handler, had slightly better court vision, and a better mid range floater)
Gamble IS just as good a defender Gilbert was and he's only a freshman
Gamble IS a better jump shooter then Gilbert
Cage IS a bigger 3 point threat the Jason Bird
Cage IS a better ball handler, better defender then Jason Bird
We ARE not wasting minutes on guys who can't really play at this level just because their seniors.
We ARE a better team this year 1-6.
We ARE less deep then we were in the past.
We did lose a huge threat at the end of the game but like i said, hopefully we won't play so many games that close this year.
how is beating detroit (pre season #15 in a midmajor poll) not a quality win.
you guys are trying to justify that the guys u only beat by like 15 was close to george washington for a little bit? come on u really think they didnt know they could win this game whenever they wanted, maybe they were trying some new things, playing their freshman? nah couldnt be... lol. oh by the way that team also got beat by bethune-cookman by 11 points at home. since they were on the raod against you i guess you guys are the same. ohio = bethune-cookman. beat somebody this season then start talking ******. i know zibby instigated you, but if ur gonna be so great shutup and let ur play do the talking. we all read the preseason writeups about ur team we dont need to hear how great you are. just thought i'd share some info to you guys about our team that i doubt your hearing anywhere.
I'm sorry if this scares you bobcat fan, but we are a better team this year like it or not
I don't get some of these facts your spouting and I am a bulls fan and have a good eye for bball.
First of all Parnell is good and better than Bortz in a lot of offensive categories. Yet he does not bring the same level of shot blocking, rebounding intensity and he does not have the alley opp dunk down like Battle and Bortz did. I'm going to wait till the end of the season maybe next year when Smith most likely will be much better than Borts.
Yassin is getting better but you describe his coming like he was the messiah. Extending defenses was great but he is also an unagressive big man with many flaws still to be corrected. I have yet to see a game where he dominates the boards which he will need to do against certain mac players.
I think for him a goal should be to dominate Leon williams every time they play. He is larger and if he plays agressively on the glass he can match up well against Williams.
Middletons jump shot is just as good if not better and he is a much better free throw shooter. Still Battle was as good of a player for the intangibles he brought to each and every game. He knew when to pass, when to take a mid range shot, pentration and dish, driving for layups and in the last minutes of a half or game he turned into a super human player. I think Middleton is much better on d espically since he is a shot blocker besides an on the ball defender. Only time will tell but it will be hard for Middleton to gain the acolaydes Turner has since he is not a focal point like Battle.
Gamble is a good defender and it should not take him to long to be as good and better than Gilbert. love this guys style cause he plays all out every second he is on the court. Let's not forget though that Robinson is showing a lot of promise at on the ball d and might be a great player too if he can bring some offense in the future.
Cage > bird 3 pointers. hell cage > bird everything
Bird was a good player but Cage is better and that is why Bird's mins went down his senior year.
Only guy on our team who has played I think is a little out of his league is Darwin Young. I like his story as a walk on and hope he improves for next season.
From what i see this team is as good as last years. It's a much different team but so far I am highly confident of a great season. Would you agree with that assesment.
