With an asterisk, add Temple with 9055 (1).
Hats off to Northern. As usual, they got a good crowd regardless of who they are playing. Hey, how did WMU pull off that crowd?
As for this part ...

We always do well with the "CommUniverCity" home opener every year.

Quote:A Western Michigan University event signaling the beginning of a new academic year, CommUniverCity Night marks the first home game of the Bronco football season. One of many joint University/community efforts, this rousing celebration features fun, food, football, and fireworks and has become one of southwest Michigan's largest family-oriented events. In fact, it has drawn a record Mid-American Conference single-game crowd for the last two years.
With the help of the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce, CommUniverCity Night was launched in 1993. It begins on Saturday afternoon with private tailgating tents blossoming into a gigantic "Corporate Village" next to WMU's Waldo Stadium. A variety of University offices join scores of corporate sponsors to provide hours of pregame food, entertainment and camaraderie for the more than 12,000 people who attend. Visitors have a chance to inspect WMU's high tech solar car or join tent parties for area high school and community college students.

But still not bad considering our going into the game with a 12-game-losing streak and against a Div 1-AA (albeit #1-ranked) opponent.

I long for those days when that was a reagular to small crowd and comuniversity and Central packed in 35 to 36 thousand.

Bright side: We beat last year's opener of 21,643. :D
Granted, a Saturday night might've been a better draw than the usual Thursday night. And SIU brought more fans than Tennessee-Martin.
We'll have to wait for a couple winning seasons before we land over 30K again.

Were you there last year?
It sure looked to be a larger crowd in '04 not to mention the announced attendance was 29,000 as well as what was in the Gazette. For some reason Western screwed up something and anounced that the crowd was only 21,000.

I wasn't at last year's opener. But now that you mention it, I do remember a lot of people saying that it seemed far undercounted.
