Would Cullop go to Michigan?
Michigan's Women's head basketball coach Kevin Borseth resigned yesterday. He is going back to Wisconsin Green Bay where he was previously head coach. I am sure Tricia Cullop will be on Michigan's radar. It is Big Ten with more than likely more money. Question is would she be interested?

I wondered the same thing. He made a base salary at Michigan of 193,135.68 per the Green Bay Gazette.

Tricia makes 223,600 + some other compensation from private donors. Not sure about additional incentives.

My guess is she stays.

I am not trying to be negative. TC is an excellent coach, but she has not proven to be a "big-time" recruiter. Considering UT's facilities and avid fan base, I would expect TC to have her pick of mid-major talent. I don't think that has been the case so far. I think she stays at UT for at least one more year.

Don't see her leaving before Naama finishes up. Her recruiting rep may hinge on this year-on paper it certainly appears to be a better crop than last year's. She HAS found some diamonds in the rough with Naama and Enma, who I think will be a very good player and lockdown defender in the not too distant.

Two names mentioned for the Michigan job are Vanderbilt coach Melanie Balcomb and Tennessee assistant Dean Lockwood.

If Cullop isn't a good recruiter, why are her teams so successful?

I don't think anyone ever said she wasn't a good coach. The recruiting hasn't been good lately. Where are the freshmen and sophomores ready to step up?

They will both have great careers at Toledo. Stephanie hasn't played as much as Inma but she is very athletic.

RE: Would Cullop go to Michigan?
Women's basketball is allowed fifteen scholarships. Obviously some will sit the bench. It makes sense that more freshmen and sophomores would sit while the juniors and seniors play. Freshmen get more of a chance to shine in weaker programs. I agree that the recruiting class from two years ago has, to this point, not turned out to have a huge impact, but that could change if Baumgartner has a year like she's capable of and Jones and Carson continue to develop. I suspect, that, with three point guards coming in and Naama and Dortch returning, Reed-Lewis may never get a chance to contribute much.

It is way too early to judge last year's class. Just because someone is red-shirting is no reason to assume that the player is not going to help the program. It can be a great decision to red-shirt a freshman who has a couple upperclassmen ahead of her at a position. You get an extra year on the back end, when she presumably will be a much better player than she would have been her freshman year. Casey Shaw red-shirted.
