Cincinnati won't play at Paul Brown Stadium
Hopefully this means things will be on a faster track to get something done with Nippert??
Cincinnati won't play at Paul Brown Stadium

CINCINNATI - (AP) -- The University of Cincinnati has changed its philosophy about playing home games in Paul Brown Stadium.
After a two-year experiment that included three games at the NFL stadium downtown, the Bearcats are returning to campus for 2012. They're playing seven home games at 35,000-seat Nippert Stadium, which coach Butch Jones and players prefer.
Athletics director Whit Babcock told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he hasn't ruled out playing games at the Cincinnati Bengals' stadium in future years, but he's more inclined to revamp Nippert Stadium and play there. The Bearcats played Louisville and West Virginia at Paul Brown last season, drawing crowds of 40,000 and 48,000.
Babcock says games at Paul Brown need to draw bigger crowds in order to make sense financially.

The only positive about this years schedule!
PBS should be reserved for OSU, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, USC, and Michigan. The rarest of the rare games.

I had a great time at the Paul Brown games. Having a legit tailgate and getting to Holy Grail after felt like a real game day.
But it absolutely sucked they both got slotted for noon and I was very unhappy with the decision to have homecoming off campus--made zero sense. I agree we should only play there when we know for a fact we will get at least 50 thousand. I think the previous administration was overly optimistic about what Louisville and WVU would draw.

Only time I went down to PBS for a UC game was against Louisville this past season. Tailgating was great, getting into the stadium was great, moving to/from seats was great, but you could hear a pin drop in there. Just wasn't the same as Nippert. Glad Whit finally came out and said what he's been hinting at for months now.

Certainly if Louisville and WVU were only going to draw 40k and 48k, there was no way we were going to play any of Del. St., Fordham, Miami, Pitt, USF, Rutgers or SU at PBS. I'm afraid enough that crowds at Nippert this year will already be sparse. It doesn't seem like any of the upcoming home opponents we have slated for future years would warrant a game at PBS either. Can't see Purdue bringing that big of a crowd.

Very happy to hear this. Nippert is a treasure.
Pitt fans rue the day they gave up their own stadium. No matter how you dress up Heinz field it is still and always will be the Steelers Home Field.

I see this more as a kick in the groin to Mikey Boy Brown and his one sided deals. Why not keep 100% of the money, compared to whatever
lopsided self serving deal Mikey cut??
100% of the profits can be sewn back into Nippert.
In addition, I predict this is a prelude to Naming Rights coming..
Why would a sponsor want the big crowds to go downtown??
Oh, and Mikey, that pricing for the Bubble,,it just went up..

I expect that the naming rights to Nippert will be sold as a part of the fundraising effort for expanding the Nip. It might make sense for a couple of years to use the naming rights as a temporary fiscal bridge. But long term it makes no sense to just sell the naming rights without putting that money explicitly to the 70 or so million dollar project that is renovating Nippert.

Naming rights to Nippert can not be sold.
