Kent State @ Bowling Green State University
The Flashes hit the road for a Saturday matinee at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green. BG enters with a 13-9 overall record including a 4-5 conference mark. The Falcons notched some nice mid major non conference wins over Drexel, Florida Gulf Coast and San Jose State. Heading into conference play they looked like a team that could challenge for the conference title. MAC play has been tough sledding for Bowling Green, although they are coming off a 16 point win over shorthanded Ohio.
The Falcons leading scorer is 6'4 junior guard Jordan Turner, who averages 15 points per game. Turner is part of a high scoring BG backcourt. 5'10 sophomore Rodrick Caldwell and 6'4 sophomore Dylan Frye average 10 points and 12 points respectively. 6'5 junior Antwan Lillard is also back in full time action. The Cleveland Central Catholic graduate has big time game when he is on. Zabo, Avery and Walker will have their hands full with these guys.
But the best all around player for the Falcons can be found in the paint. 6'10 junior Demajeo Wiggins averages 13 points and 9 rebounds per game. Wiggins is a Toledo product and graduate of Springfield HS. This should be an interesting matchup down low. Curious to see if Rob deploys De La Rosa, Pippen, or a combination of both on Wiggins.
Anyway, this is a big one for the Flashes. Another realistic opportunity to steal a road win. BG ain't that good and the 3:30 start time is a bit odd. I will be curious to see the attendance figures. I imagine that could go either way.
As we enter February I figure its time to start scoreboard watching a bit. So after the Flashes knock off BG I will be pulling for Akron (yep, Akron), EMU, Ohio and NIU. And yes, Kent will knock of BG...
Kent State 79
Bowling Green 75
Jalen Avery seals it down the stretch to cap off a 23 point game
GO FLASHES!
