They are maxed out with 3 P5 revenue games, and already have an FCS school. They need two G5 games, and preferably hosting both

Realistically, there only three (3) schools left in play for an October date and only two can start a series on the road at New Mexico State: Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State. The third, Georgia State, could host New Mexico State, but a game in Las Cruces would have to be pushed out until at least 2022 if not later -- and it's problematic for them to play after September (filled for NMSU) anyway. That is it for options. A couple of other schools have open dates, but they are either only for September (e.g., FIU) or almost certainly for hosting an FCS school (schedule pattern, plus need for a home game).

So basically it comes down to getting either App State or CCU to come to Las Cruces in October (either the 12th or the 26th) of October and a return game later (2020 most likely for App St or 2021 for CCU). I think each are about equally likely, and it's probably an either or, not a both situation. The 12th game, really doen't have any options. I am pretty sure it'll wind up being a 2nd FCS school.

2020, the Aggies have 7 scheduled, but 3 are home games already. My WAG is they get scheduled by some P5 school in November and probably one in week zero or Oct 10th. They'll add an FCS opponent, and they'll host a G5 on Sep 26th, and have the return game possibly for their 2019 opponent in mid-October. So that should work out with 5 home games.

2021 has 7 games, this time 4 home games. Again pencil in two P5 road games, an FCS home game, the return game for that G5 opponent on Sep. 26, 2019 in mid-October, and you are at 11. Amazingly this year looks fairly solid.

2022 and 2023 are too far out and incomplete to say much. Hopefully they land somewhere by then.

One pattern that has emerged is that old WAC schools, especially those that went to the MWC are answering the phone and helping NMSU out (Hawaii, SJSU, Fresno St, Utah State), as also some SBC schools (Texas State, ULL, Georgia Southern). What is curious is the lack of old guard MWC schools and CUSA schools save rival UNM and UTEP.

Well they do have Wyoming H&H along with New Mexico. Both are founders of the WAC & MWC.
That leaves Colorado St, Air Force, UNLV & San Diego St as the other MWC schools in the MWC old guard. They’ll never get home games with Air Force. Also count out Colorado St, SDSU at this point probably (and Boise of course) But maybe UNLV & Tulsa with the history they had in the big west/MVC?

I would think more games with Texas State and add North Texas and UTSA if possible... get that Texas recruiting going.

Yes, Texas St, UTSA, UNT are obvious ones. I'd even add in Rice as Rice might look at as a probable Win.

Rice has no probable wins...

True statement.

Also, we played H&H with NMSU not too long ago and I seem to remember some gripes about how one of the dates got rescheduled. They’ve had a tough go of it so the request for flexibility was probably justified.
