Quote:Distributors hate the idea of Disney owning ESPN plus 22 RSNs — the most expensive channels by far. Look for Disney to placate some of that opposition by selling RSNs to Comcast and AT&T in the markets where they own cable systems. That means Fox’s RSNs in Detroit, Minneapolis and Miami will move to Comcast, and its RSN in Dallas will go to AT&T.

If the one based in Dallas does get sold then I wonder if we'll see the LHN transition into a true RSN in the not too distant future? After all, there's really no reason to have 2 RSNs in the same market although there's overlap in other areas of the country.

Would they really need the Dallas affiliate if Texas winds up in the SEC or ACC? They could liquidate that RSN fold the LHN over into whichever conference network Texas was joining and wash their hands.

Heck, even if Texas heads West the LHN could become the PACN.

I think they only sell them if the oversight committee says they need to in order to get final approval. But anyway you cut it the balls in Disney's court and they have the Horns covered everywhere but the BTN which isn't likely.

I think once Texas joins another league that the LHN becomes completely worthless unless they just change the format and start doing more regional content.

The existing RSN there covers the Spurs, Mavericks, Stars, and the Rangers. It's a nice local lineup that I wouldn't think they'd want to lose unless they do as you're saying and give it up to appease regulators.

Assuming ESPN acquires more college rights then I think it's possible both networks could come in handy, but I think it depends on what sort of rates they could get.
