Sweep the garbage out?
While complaining in an ESPN SportsCenter interview this morning about Alabama's game today against Mercer, and more generally about SEC late-season games against FCS and G5 opponents, Paul Finebaum couldn't limit himself to simply opining that SEC teams should play all such games early in the season. He had to use the words that they should "sweep the garbage out" before beginning conference play.
Really? I imagine a lot of folks will say this is just Finebaum being Finebaum, and I don't believe in discouraging people from speaking their minds in the name of political correctness. But IMHO labeling any group of college football players "garbage" is plain rude, and ESPN is paying Finebaum big bucks to do it.
I suppose it's just a symptom of the general devolution of popular culture that we've crossed the line from lauding frankness to rewarding open spite.
