Two things...

1. His NFL career is done. Another team is not calling.

When you don't have a natural recruiting base in your backyard then it's a drudgery no matter how much money you've got at your back. Point being, he wouldn't have these problems at a place like Florida. The recruits are all over his backyard and they will be more than happy to come to him. He may or may not enjoy the process, but it will be much easier at Florida than Oregon to bring in top players.

If Kelly is going to get back into college then Florida is one of the few places that is a perfect fit.

If Kelly heads to Florida then Mullen to Tennessee starts to make some sense. But the truth is Fuentes is the best suited to Tennessee. He already has established recruiting contacts in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida.

The really interesting rumor that Finebaum has been sort of pushing is Fisher to A&M.

If I was going to match them up I think I would have Fuentes to Tennessee, Mullen to A&M, and Kelly to Florida and Fisher to Virginia Tech. But that's just me.

If I'm Tennessee then I am intrigued by Fuente, but I don't know that I'm sold. He did a good job at Memphis, but wasn't there very long and has only been at Virginia Tech two seasons. I don't know how deep his connections are in that part of the country. He's from Oklahoma and was an assistant at TCU longer than the HC at Memphis. Perhaps he would be a better choice for Arkansas?

The thing about Dan Mullen is he's performed pretty well at a hard job and always coaches up a pretty good QB. MSU is not an easy place to recruit to. There are players in state, but the power programs are pretty much going to take who they want. Then you have to fight Ole Miss. And Starkville is not an attractive locale at that.

As a TN fan, the one concern I have about Mullen is his conference record not being that great. Granted that playing Alabama every year hurts that record, but he won't lose Alabama on a TN schedule either. I'd be content with Mullen, excited to see what he does. But I want to check in with:

Fuentes
Gundy
Patterson
And maybe Doeren
Maybe Strong?

I want to wait on Norvell.
