Chop blocking is illegal (Hitting a player below the thighs, while he is currently engaged with another player). Navy doesn't chop block. Perhaps you are referring to cut blocking, which is a perfectly legal maneuver.

Navy gets away with a lot of chop blocks during a game. I'm not saying they play dirty doing it but they do it often.

It's about like Louisville basketball....they press and play with their hands for most of the 40 minutes. The refs can only call so many of the fouls. Then let some of the borderline but still illegal plays go.


Beating Navy is all about the defense playing smart and staying in their lanes. It goes against everything those players have been taught. But it's the #1 key to getting the win.

Players are taught to be aggressive and go for the player with the football. But with Navy you must stay in your lanes. Western did just that over a two year period and went 4-0 verses Navy/Army
