Western was in the 8k and change in 2015.
The numbers in the link sounds correct for those two seasons. Western had a record high of 9150 (might have been 9125) in 2009.
==============================================================================================
But things are not always as they seem.....
The total number sold tells one story and the total attendance tells another. The one that really matters tells a totally different one....
that would be dollars made off tickets sold
When you start looking at the dollars it's clear some schools are selling a ton of discounted tickets. While a few others put value on each ticket sold.
Just a example
2013 FIU 12036 in season tickets and without looking it up I think their avg attendance was in the 15k range. Yet FIU made $643,154 in 2013 on tickets sold
S. Miss sold 20910 in 2012 and just a guess on avg attendance I say 26k and they made $2,859,879 in 2012. 2013 (16361) S. Miss made $2,930,731 and 2014 (15587) $2,215,329. Some of the 2012 & 2013 money came from basketball....S.Miss was at the top of the conference those years. And S. Miss was packing the fans in.
Now lets look at UTEP 13K in season tickets for 2014 and I assume 25k+ in avg attendance. UTEP made $2,326,459 off tickets sold in 2014. But thats not telling the whole picture...
UTEP is also one of the highest in CUSA in basketball attendance usually around 7k. That money includes ALL tickets sold in both sports. So something is not adding up....
probably a lot of dollar night tickets are sold in both sports
Western avg around 17500 (7588 season tickets) or there about in 2014 for FB and around 4300 for basketball. With a total of $2,054,360 in tickets sold. I know for a fact Western brings in around $800,000 off 4200-4500 in basketball.
So that leaves 1.2 mil for fb tickets sold. Western has on avg 4500 students for each FB game which leaves 13,000 paying fans x 6 games = 78,000 or a avg of $15 a ticket
Now lets look at ODU in 2014 ...14700 in season tickets and 21,000 in avg attendance. ODU usually avg around 7000 in BB fans and I'm going to assume they are in line with Western on money off those tickets and give them 1.4 million made
in 2014 ODU made $3,576,261 off sold tickets so that leaves 2.1 for FB. and going by what I read I believe they set aside around 4,000 for students. That leaves 17,000 x 6= 102,000 which avg out to around $20 a ticket. Again going by post on this board on prices that seems to be close to a avg.
So to me it seems like some schools that are in the 25k range in avg attendance and stadiums that are in the 65% or below range of being full sell a lot of discounted tickets.
Marshall sold $3,326,138 in tickets for 2014 and they avg in the 24k range and Marshall also avg in the 5k range for basketball....
one or both of those are selling some cheap tickets just to get butts in those seats. For Marshall I assume that would be basketball because they are right at the top of CUSA in ticket prices on FB. I'm sure they have some family type deals that are cheaper. But most are in the $30+ range
Point is butts might matter.....dollars made off them are just as if not more important
