The Big South would be slightly worse from a travel standpoint. Most of their road trips would still be in the 6-6.5 hour range, but some of the shorter trips get replaced by trips to Charleston, South Carolina; even Western Illinois is closer to Morehead than Charleston Southern. Practically every conference game requires crossing the Appalachians as well. It would make more sense to get the OVC to replace Eastern Kentucky with Bellarmine than it would to join the Big South.

Morehead St may have been a DI school for decades, but many DII schools far exceed it. Was shocked at how small Morehead was when I stopped for gas along the interstate to Huntington. Most DII schools in the power DII conferences far exceed it and it only has a pittance for an endowment. EKU may just as well be Ohio St in comparison.
