Can you even imagine what a lawless shitehole our country would be if those colors were reversed
That statement could actually spin off a lengthy thread of its own.
But to address the sentiment succinctly: Detroit.
Louis Miriani was the last Republican mayor of Detroit. The 63rd mayor of Detroit, Miriani's term of office was September 12, 1957 – January 2, 1962.
Up to this point, Democrats and Republicans shared terms as mayor beginning in 1860. (List of mayors of Detroit, Wikipedia)
Jerome Cavanagh, a Democrat, beat Miriani and assumed office In Jan 1962. Since then Detroit has been under uninterrupted Democratic leadership spanning the next 55 years.
The following two-part video was produced in support of Detroit's bid to serve as an Olympic host city. This video was meant to showcase Detroit, and it achieved its goal. Even knowing that every city has its negatives, this video is quite impressive. Detroit was a marvelous place.
It is the Democrat Cavanagh who provides the introduction to the video. The decades of growth and achievements highlighted in the were the result of the city being led by competing political ideologies. Voters gave both parties opportunities to lead the direction of the city.
When you have 20 minutes to spare watch the videos. You'll be amazed at what Detroit once was and it will provide a new perspective on the the cities current condition.
We see today's Detroit in its depressed and dilapidated condition, but many of us don't understand just how far Detroit has fallen under half a century of pure Democratic leadership.
