4 P5 FB road trips I'd like to see the Dukes make
We know we have NC State and West Va coming up to get us thru 2019. Here are 4 I'd love to see coming up as we head into the 20's...(intentionally leaving out UNCheat, NCSU, WVU, etc., since we've played there recently or will before 2020)
4. Duke - we could put a lot of purple in their stadium...gorgeous campus, driveable for most JMU fans, winnable game (though Duke is by far from the pushover they were pre-Cutcliffe)
3. Pittsburgh - driveable for a lot of JMU fans, downtown area is fabulous now, they have a casino walking distance near Heinz Field, good fanbase, they rarely fill their stadium or anywhere close to it so plenty of (cheap) tickets will be available near the field via the online broker marketers
2. Navy - OK OK they aren't P5, but I'll make a slight convenient exception for the Mids like most of the P5 conferences do when demanding they play P5 opponents OOC...I've been there 3 times and talk about the greatest, classiest welcoming fanbase in the world...watching the Mids march onto the field is a wonderful thing and then when the Mids do a salute to the opposing fans' section it just makes it even better...again, driveable for a lot of JMU fans...Annapolis is a great place to just walk around for hours for those who have never been there, the Naval Academy museums alone are worth it
and...
1. Tennessee - I admit I am biased having a son who is a Vols alum. I've been in Neyland both as an opposing fan and when rooting for the Big Orange. UT had a long-standing unwritten policy of avoiding playing D1AA teams, but they have relaxed that the last few years and apparently will continue to host 1 each year. The Smokies nearby make for a great long weekend. It would be a great opportunity to see one of CFB palaces for JMU faithful.
Admittedly, I have been in all of these stadium in the past multiple times. I'd love to see Dukes faithful get to these venues one day regardless of whether we are 1AA or G5.
Note, while Maryland has a game hosting Towson in 2020, I think the Big 10 is starting to frown upon hosting D1AA opponents as they also move to 9 conference games + 1 P5 opponent mandatory and a continued relationship with the MAC.
Others you'd like to see in the next decade?
