Kent Baseball Players in the Pros - 2017 Edition
Another thread to cover the Kent alum:
* Travis Shaw is slated to be the starting 3B of the Brewers. He's had a great spring and the Brewers lost 2B Scooter Gennett, who was the one guy who could have stepped into the lineup (the Brewers would move Perez from 2B to 3B), so the team is committed to Shaw. As far as what to expect, Shaw proved he could handle himself defensively at third, but pitchers found ways to exploit his long swing last year. Shaw is a smart guy who seems to think about hitting 24/7, so I expect him to make some adjustments and be close to average this year, which will suit the Brewers just fine.
* Andrew Chafin made the Diamondbacks as the last guy in the bullpen, in part because the Dbacks wanted a second lefthander. Despite compliments from the manager on how his pitches have come along in the spring, his spring training performance has been kind of rough, include giving up some extra base hits that he normally doesn't. That said, it is spring training. Personally, I think last year was a bit of an aberration (he gave up far too many runs given the rest of his stat line and was generally awesome when he pitched in the minors), so if the injury bug has cleared up (a big fear), I expect Chafin to return to where he was in 2015 and be a very good relief pitcher.
At this point, I don't think any other Kent players are close to making big league clubs. Emmanuel Burriss was reassigned and I expect he'll be at AAA for the Senators. Brian Clark pitched well for the White Sox in spring training and I think has moved considerably up the prospect list to the point where I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the bigs this year.
