Everybody else - N/A

So, even with what we have, on paper, we're better than anybody but UConn. I'm not expecting to be competing for a national championship in the next year or two, but what I am expecting is to be competitive against equal talent. I think a lot of people will be happy with that. I think a lot of conference mates won't be.

If paper ratings won games, JP would probably be working on another roll-over contract at Memphis.

Lots of people can coach way better than they can recruit. That's almost always because of WHERE they coach. Pastner was the exact opposite, and the main reason he was able to recruit as well as he did is because of where he was.

Not many at the DI level who can't coach get a chance to prove it regularly in front of 16,000 people like Pastner did the first five years. So, I suspect "paper ratings" predict wins a lot more often than they don't for those reasons -- most coaches who can get highly ranked recruits can also coach.

I think you have it exactly backwards. Partner couldn't coach BECAUSE of the kids he was recruiting. How many City of Memphis kids played on an NBA roster in the past 20 years? We always talk about the talent in Memphis, but only Nolan Richardson was able to win a title with Memphis players. Even Keith Lee was from West Memphis.
