If you need a less dense read, I would do the Dunk & Egg books. Like I said, the pace is very slow and deliberate, but it's also written in that Forrest Gump style where the main character doesn't realize the importance of the events he has stumbled into. It's a different style of read than the main series. I loved it. It's really 3 novellas packed in one book, and each one is its own story, though the main characters are the same. Perfect light summer reading in the GRRM setting.

Yeah, I enjoyed those stories. I haven't read the World of Ice & Fire yet. I typically find those companion books boring, I want a story. I've read a few of GRRM's other works and enjoyed them. If you like that genre then check out The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. Very entertaining and easy reading. But word of warning the final book is yet unpublished with the last being published in 2011.

I've only seen a few episodes of GOT as I don't have cable. The first seasons seemed very true to the story if not some of the characters. I've found it hard to avoid the spoilers so now I just read them, including this thread. I don't know if I'll ever watch them because my wife doesn't seem too interested and with two young kids our opportunities to watch it is pretty limited. So I've just been reading the synopsis of each episode the last couple of seasons.
