Several UT has lost, along with kids opting for an FCS school and Appy State offer, hopefully does not detect a downward trend for Rocket recruiting. I'm thinking that once Candle gets a couple of good seasons under his belt, and the fact that he sticks around, Toledo football will be just fine.

If Candle gets a couple good years under his belt, he's gone. That was the obvious reason not to hire the next good'ol boy. It doesn't fix the problem. It appears it might not even delay it but this is just recruiting. If his staff can still hold their own on development and pick up some skill in game strategy, they might hold it together enough to make room for the next good ol boy.

I agree. I would rather have a proven coach that can recruit and build on the tradition at Toledo instead of it being a stepping stone

But that's just the nature of being a MAC team. Any coach who comes here is hoping to do well enough to move up. What coach wouldn't want that? I suppose if you hired someone old enough maybe he wouldn't have aspirations, but that has its drawbacks, too.

OU. Maybe Akron keeps their coach, too. In the MAC aid you win you move up, if you lose you get fired. There really aren't any Pinkels anymore.
