NIU's enrollment has been dropping as well. More students opting for community college when they graduate HS With Harper having a medical center where students can earn a BSN without having to leave home and COD offering 3+1 programs in partnership with Concordia, Benedictine, Lewis, Roosevelt, National Lewis & GSU, the other state universities will be seeing a declining number of transfer students

Yeah, this is exactly the case.

I've made that choice recently. Coming out of HS in 2014, I decided that going to a state school straight out of HS would be the worst decision I could possibly make.

I could either go to Community College for 2 to 3 years, and have 0 debt for the first two or three years....or instead go straight to a university and owe a cool 50,000 the first two years alone. Choice is simple

If state schools want their enrollments to go up...drop the price. I'm not paying 25k /yr for 4 years for any of the schools in Illinois. Not happening.

So i'm finishing my 2nd year of Community College, and transferring to an out of state school. It's still cheaper than going to NIU, EIU, WIU, SIU or ISU.


It sucks because of I had my choice, money not being a factor, i'm sure i'd beat NIU!

??? You said it's cheaper out of state. Really? What schools are you comparing to NIU on price. Not saying you're wrong, but it just seems unusual to me.
