They are playing Miles 15 million to get out of his contract, and then the school will be making excuses for raising the students tuition rates. Really sucks...

LSU athletics gets zero dollars from student fees or subsidies.

Also, it's not $15 million. Reportedly the contract says that LSU gets to pay his buyout in installments over 8 years and gets to offset Miles' future salary against what they owe him. In other words, they'll negotiate a lump sum settlement with Miles' representatives for a lot less than $15 million.

If LSU waits to fire him until January 1st, the buyout falls to $12.9 million.

And yes, since the payout is over 8 years, LSU can pay a smaller lump sum now. But not because Miles will negotiate away a cent of what he's owed - he won't - but because of the time value of money.
