RE: Big 12 has to expand or it will implode soon,
Neither OU nor WVU are going anywhere. These schools aren't so short sighted that they would sign away all their media rights...then, leave a few years later, without those rights. Schools make much longer and stronger plans than that.
The Big 12 is making more money, across the board, then they have ever made. All the schools are knee deep in renovations and facility expansion. Things are actually going well...no matter what the media perception might be. It seems that each school is so busy with construction that they really don't have time to worry about adding two schools. And really, which school near the bottom of the conference pecking order is eager to add a school that will end up ahead of them in the standings?? If Cincy is the #1 candidate...then the second school might just be an academic school with more potential, than kinetic athletic prowess??
The Big 12 will add two schools in about two years, I feel. It will be Cincy + 1 other school.
ECU won't get in...they don't fit the mold as well as would be desired, yet. But, they are showing some really strong signs of progress and should really help the AAC become a strong conference.
UofH won't get in because they have burned too many bridges with their old mates in the SWC. Rice might be a candidate...as the alternative in that market, since they have such a strong tie with all the old SWC schools and Kansas(off and on).
Memphis is very short on academics, but otherwise looks promising. When is their stadium being renovated? Soon?
UCF has good potential, but I'm not certain the conference is ready to take their only shot at a Florida school by targeting UCF. Miami and FSU have to be their preferred options, even though they are very slim. UCF might be in a holding pattern because of that. Hard to gauge the conferences feelings on UCF.
Wild cards: Navy(SA, National pride and following), UConn(great academics and bb), Tulane(great academics, recruiting and New Orleans), .....I guess that's it??
