Friday night practice notes
Tonight's practice was held in the Chessick Center which was great since it was so cold outside and the Huskie Stadium wind tunnel was in effect. The only bad part is that you can't see as much watching from field level but tonight I didn't mind. They had a big crowd of recruits there too and I'm sure they didn't want them freezing in the stands.
The team worked in shells tonight so when they scrimmaged they weren't tackling to the ground. A few observations:
-First I should point out how much better it looks with Douglas Hall gone. It really opens up that area and provides a nice view of the towers. I think it's going to look great when they build the road through there and landscape it, much more modern.
-With Bouagnon and Huff out they only had four tailbacks dressed: Keith Harris, Draco Smith, Maalik Todd and some mystery person wearing number 27. He was very small but did show excellent quickness in drills. Maalik Todd is small but solid and did some nice things in the scrimmage.
-The quarterback order was Hare then Maddie then Graham. They all looked pretty good. I don't know if that order is set in stone or they're going to let Maddie and Graham duke it out for number 2. Hare had a very good night and even hit a deep ball while I was there, how about that! At one point Graham threw a 10 yard out from between the hashes that was coming straight for my head. I ducked to get out of the way and as the ball whizzed by me it had so much velocity it was frightening. That was a pill. Graham will be a factor sometime down the road. I didn't stay for the entire scrimmage so I didn't see McIntosh in live action.
-The first O-line was Levon Myers, Aidan Conlon, Andrew Ness, Josh Ruka and Lincoln Howard left to right. The second O-line was Dale Brown, Ron Brown, Shane Evans, Scott Taylor/Luke Shively rotating, Max Scharping left to right. Scharping looks freaking huge.
-Tommylee did drills and looked good running around out there, very frisky. Beebe drilled and scrimmaged and looked good as new to me. Deucee Turner was terrific tonight, he might be in line for a big year. Golladay did not do anything extraordinary. I didn't see Brescacin at all.
-Maxwell, Wimann and Tolliver looked good at tight end. I don't know anything about Tolliver as a blocker yet but he can really run and catch downfield. He could be an interesting option at some point.
-Corey Thomas was not dressed so the first D line tonight was Cam Clinton-Earl, William Lee, Ben Compton and Perez Ford left to right. They subbed a ton of guys so there were lots of combos. Ruben Dunbar was practicing. Austin Smaha got a lot of reps because I believe Ladell Fleming was not dressed.
-Rock Lemon was not dressed so the first linebackers were Sean Folliard, Boomer Mays and Bobby Jones.
-Anthony Brooks didn't appear to be dressed so the first DBs were Paris Logan and Albert Smalls at corner and Marlon Moore and Brandon Mayes at safety. Jawuan Johnson was in at nickel and with the second group. Mayomi Olootu had a great practice. I didn't see Deion Hallmon.
