Two days old... so I can't really do anything about it this time. But obviously that won't be allowed to happen again.

Chief, as a Mod, what is the protocol here? Do you give him a warning to tone it down on the board, send him a private email or PM warning, move the thread, give negative rating, end the thread or other? If timing was different and you could have taken action, what action would you have taken? We're in the process of choosing a board Mod and just thought this would be a good example of what actions to take in an extreme situation.

Depends on the user and the moderator

If the post is over the top and caught immediately, and the user has little history of trouble, I delete the post (actually unapprove, never delete a post. Just make it where only mods can see it), and send a gentle PM about making sure you keep statements less inflamatory in the future. I've known mods who have banned for less, and known mods who would probably laughed at the post in question.

It's also important to note that a mod is sort of like am ambassador to other boards. For instance, if one of you guys is over trolling the SBC Board to the point of no return, I could easily run you through with my sword, but I would never do such a happy yet terrible thing without first discussing it with your elected mod, and finding a more equitable solution. The same theory exists in reverse...

I'll dump a little bit in your mod election thread about what I think about this.

Thanks Chief. As we're electing our mod, just thought some real mod experience from your position would help, and it does. Common sense we know is the guide. Just thought the logistics and steps to take with over the top posts, when necessary which we hope is seldom would, be beneficial to know.

I've seen you challenged and charged as much as anyone with your post so I guess we can add tolerance as well. Thank for responding.

It's hard for me to really go into major detail on what happens, because it's complicated to explain to others. I've got far too many buttons to play with to try and explain more thoroughly how I operate.
