Freshman ineligibility rules being discussed
http://www.sportsdaynow.com/freshman-ine...dominance/

... Does this sound like a conspiracy theory? If it is, then why would this freshman ineligibility rule only apply to football and men’s basketball as the Big 10 has proposed? One-and-done players have inadvertently rotted away much of the national fan and media interest in college basketball while simultaneously making a mockery of the sport, but how have true freshman football players hurt the sport in any way?
If you think the Big 10 and Pac-12 are on island with their interest in freshman ineligibility, think again.

It appears the Big 12 could be on board. Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby was quoted by CBSSports.com as saying freshman ineligibility would have a “profoundly positive effect” on football and men’s basketball by easing the transition from high school without the distractions of competition.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford, as is his history, has been coy on the topic, but hardly ruled the idea out when commenting to CBSSportsline.com, “I don’t think it’s looked upon as radical an idea as it seemed to people five years or 10 years ago because it makes so much sense educationally.”

Presently, the Big 10 or Pac-12, or any conference for that matter, could choose to make freshman ineligible. Doing so unilaterally would be competitive suicide. I can promise you no Power 5 conference will do this without all the others coming along, either freely or by force or a combination.

So how can the Big 10 and Pac-12 “force” the SEC to come along? By voting.

“The rules surrounding freshmen ineligibility don’t fall within the areas of autonomy, ... On a vote amongst all 300+ Division One schools, the 14 SEC member institutions have almost no voice. ...
