It is called the "buddy" system of hiring. He and our disaster of an AD were buddies.

Our coach was hired in the same manner, but fortunately it looks like the AD is going to get away with it as Jones is vindicating him. There was a lot of turmoil surrounding the hire for quite awhile though.

Jones did big things at least in his time at UVA. His past resume made him a good candidate for ODU (although perhaps not the best).

Sadler on the other hand has a less illustrious career. Sadler has one NCAA tournament game in his career, which he lost. He only made it past the first round the NIT one time.

Not saying Sadler won't be successful by any means, but it definitely reeks of "buddy hire" more than ODU's because Sadler didn't really have a good pedigree like Jones did.

And don't forget that his one tournament appearance was with a team stocked with Billy Gillispie recruits...
