when you talk about our cultural dominance ==> yes we certainly were lucky. Our african american population gave us a nice musical twist while still being european enough to be accepted by europe back in the first half of the 1900s. also being able to dominate the movie business payed unprecedented dividends as well for 100+ years.
we also had luck economically. american entrepreneurs pushed an "all automobile" society well before europe did. during WWII the germans still used horses for a surprisingly large percentage of their transportation needs. also WWII crushed the economy/infrastructure of every major economy except ours.
We should go back to horses, John.
