Here in WPA we have countless trails and even bike lanes and these sorry bastards will still ride in the middle of the road. One time I was on a back country road and when I attempted to pass these two cyclist they nearly ran me off of the left side of the road. I so wanted to get out of my car and pistol whip both of their sorry asses. Worst part is, there is a bike/hiking trail 200 feet to our right. SMH
There are always a few in every group that ruin it for everyone else. Back country roads are the places where bikes should be riding on though. Patience is the key. Wait till you can pass all the way or most of the way over in the other lane, don't crowd them up on the far right and everything should go well. I don't ride anymore but when I did years ago I always tried to wave them around when I could see they had a safe spot to go around. Some people would try to pass staying in the right lane and that is very dangerous for the cyclist. If there are potholes or broken pavement on the edge it can be really bad. The cyclist needs some room to make slight changes left and right.
The reason they don't ride on the trails is because they are on road bikes, not mountain bikes, too different things all together. Bikes shouldn't be on walking trails either. Like sidewalks it is a danger for pedestrians/hikers.
