In some ways yes, but it really shares clout with the LA schools. UCLA has more NCAA team titles. USC has almost as many, and the Trojans have had more of their athletes go on to win Olympics medals. Stanford has the most individual NCAA titles and has a 37-year streak going of winning at least one team title.

The title streak and the Directors' Cup success is in large part a product of Stanford fielding so many varsity sports. This was a great year for the Cardinal and Stanford had to omit 9 scores from its Directors' Cup tally. But we obviously wouldn't win the award if we took some sort of average performance measure. That would go to Florida. But I still think it's neat to have so much cumulative success.
