If you compare Mao to other historical Chinese leaders you'll see he was pretty tame by comparison.

He was born before the lot of 'em, and his actions engendered generations of hatred between Muslims and Christians.
Wow, what a load of ignorant hyperbole. The Medieval times saw much progress and the generations of hatred started when Islam first attacked Christian lands.
