It will be a pay cut. Free is not in a strong bargaining position. The Cowboys don't feel he's played up to expectations.

Jerry Jones & Tony Romo don't live up to Cowboy fans' expectations! Many of them wish Jones would back out of meddling and dump Romo. Sadly, the Cowboys are going nowhere fast.
Hope all works out ok for Doug.

Here's the bottom line:
1) Free has NO leverage....he's had two bad seasons, especially the latest one
2) Tony Romo is not an elite QB, but give him a better O line and he can make some plays
3) Jerry overpaid Free after one good season......that's JJ's problem, he's done it before
4) Most fans want JJ to fade away and turn things over to his son......who will finally hire a REAL GM (not Mr. Jocks & Socks)
5) JJ is still making money.....he is signing more college football marquee games, and he has the Final Four coming to Jerry World next year......he sucks as a GM, but the dude knows how to make money
