MAC Football!
Minutemen set sturdy foundation

UMass athletic director John McCutcheon had a smile while standing underneath the Gillette Stadium stands and it had nothing to do with any holiday purchase on Black Friday.

McCutcheon was eager to extol the long strides the UMass football program took in its transition year into FBS status as a new member of the Mid-American Conference.

“I think it was a great experience for us. We learned a lot. Obviously, you’d like to win more than we did but that, I don’t think, was to be unexpected in terms of wins and losses,” McCutcheon said. “I think we saw some great development of the team. We hung in there in a couple of the games. We got our first win, which was very positive.”
