As for Paige’s tweet, I took it as a knee jerk emotional reaction that I am sure a lot of players initially held. Paige’s leaving has more to with the fact that he has learned he will get drafted, that his draft status would not change no matter how many records he may have broken, and that if he became injured it would be all over.
In the end, both left for the same reason, taking their abilities to the next level.
Please address the fact that the senior players voted against Beckman coming to the year end banquet.
He did, "emotion."
Can you imagine up any personal financial gain Coach Beckman received by coming back for the banquet?
The guy has millions now. He has a family. Those seniors had no hold over him other than he apparently cared enough for them that he wanted to take the risk to come back even if it meant taking heat.
Personally, if they still felt that way today I'd need something more to support them then "he left." I'd question their maturity.
Everyone leaves. Coaches and players and students have to make emotional decisions as to when the time is right. None of them owe anyone an apology. If he had right out said, he was never going to leave, them sure maybe an apology. To come back and "face the music" says something to me.
