Source: Big East to get $20 million

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University says it has settled a lawsuit with the Big East conference, clearing the way for the Mountaineers to join the Big 12 in July.

According to Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports, the Big East will get $20 million from West Virginia. The Big 12 will loan the Mountaineers $10 million but part of the loan will be forgiven by the conference.

Athletic Director Oliver Luck says WVU will pay the Big East from private sources and money that athletics raised on its own.

Luck planned a news conference later Tuesday in Morgantown. Luck said “membership in the Big 12 offers WVU significant advantages."

WVU sued the Big East in November, challenging its bylaws in a bid to join the Big 12. The Big East countersued four days later
