QUOTE (TexanMark @ May 14 2005, 12:54 AM)
The new University President and AD are commited to making SU the premier football program in the Big East.
Glad to hear it. The Big East needs a strong Syracuse program.
Yes, and it needs a strong Cards program, and a strong Pitt program, and a strong Eers program.
It needs an improving Bearcats program, an improving UConn program, an improving Bulls program, and an improving Rutgers pro...
No doubt.
One or two teams doesn't necessarily make a conference strong and respectable, but rather depth does.
The Big Ten isn't considered strong just because of Michigan and Ohio State, but rather because teams like Wisconsin, Iowa, Purdue......step up and have good seasons when those two may be a little down.
Same with the SEC; it’s constantly shifting; different teams step up in different years.
Same with the Big 12. It used to be the North division with Nebraska, Kansas State, Colorado......now the South division is carrying the load.....but whoever does it, the load must be carried.
The Big East needs a couple of more football teams to build depth.
But this is why also I scratch my head when I hear current BE member's fans talk about adding teams like Army, Navy, and Temple. With the way things are now for the Big East, we simply need quality first. The first criteria needs to be can you give us a team that can give us an occasion Top-25 year.
