I have no personal opinion of Hawaii. I usually cheer for non-BCS teams (except when they play the BE.)

But if Hawaii gets a BCS bid it would be a travesty.

Let's look at who they've beaten:

Northern Colorado (0-7), 63 to 6
UNC is a relatively new 1-AA program who, after their game against Hawaii, was blanked 31-0 by a Division II school. They were also blanked by a 2-4 Weber State squad and were blown out by limited-scholarship San Diego.

Louisiana Tech (2-4), 45 to 44
Hawaii was able to hang on for the win as La Tech went for 2 in OT and failed to get it. La Tech's only prior win before today's 1-point victory over NMSU (a team that Boise blanked 58-0 last week) was over 1-AA newcomer Central Arkansas. The average margin of victory for the other 3 teams to beat La Tech? 22. Hawaii held on by 1 point.

UNLV (2-5), 49 to 14
Only Hawaii can say their best win thus far is against a 2-5 UNLV team. UNLV was competitive against BYU and Wisconsin, and beat Utah.

Charleston Southern (3-3), 66 to 10
Hawaii isn't even playing GOOD 1-AA squads. The only wins for Chas Southern? D-II Johnson C. Smith and North Greenville, and Savannah State - probably the worst team in all 1-AA.

Idaho (1-7), 48 to 20
Hawaii pounded the Vandals, just like everyone else who has played them - apart from 1-AA Cal Poly, Idaho's only win. Idaho even lost to Northern Illinois - the ONLY win for the Huskies, who have been beaten by Temple and 1-AA Southern Illinois.

Utah State (0-6), 52 to 37
Hawaii allows 37 points to a terrible, winless Utah State squad. The last time the Aggies scored so many points? Back in 2003 against MTSU. The average points scored by USU in their other 5 losses? 15.

San Jose State (3-4), 42 to 35
Hawaii had to storm back and sneak out a win in OT against a Spartan team that lost to the 3 BCS teams they played by an average score of 39 to 6. The 3 wins for SJSU? 1-AA Cal Davis, winless Utah State, and the above-mentioned Vandals. Yet they almost took down Hawaii.

The combined record of Hawaii's opposition? 11-36

Who do they have coming up?

New Mexico State (3-4)
NMSU and Hawaii have something in common - they've both beaten up on two 1-AA schools (in NMSU's case it was SE Louisiana and a 3-point win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. eeeesh.) They do have a win over UTEP.

Nevada (2-3)
The Wolfpack have beaten 1-AA Nichols State, and UNLV. They were pounded by Nebraska, and lost to Northwestern and Fresno.

Fresno State (4-2)
The Bulldogs 4 wins? Idaho, La Tech, Nevada (2-3), and 1-AA Sacramento State. They lost to Texas A&M (the school that's been pounded by Miami and Texas Tech), and were torn apart by Oregon.

Boise State (4-1)
Would obviously be a nice win, but Washington also beat the Broncos. BSU's 4 wins? New Mexico State, 1-AA Weber State, Wyoming (nice, but New Mexico also beat them) and Southern Miss (nice, but Rice also beat them). It would be a solid win, but one that is worthy of propelling a team into a BCS bowl? I think not.

Washington (2-3, about to be 2-4)
Would obviously be a nice win, but by the time the game rolls around the Huskies might be looking at a 3-10 or a 4-9 record, looking at their remaining schedule.

That's it! If that's the resume for a multi-million dollar BCS bowl berth, then I think you'll have alot of teams changing their scheduling philosophy and taking the "Hawaii route." The top 6 BE teams would all have an excellent shot at going undefeated with that schedule, and probably about 50 to 60 other teams as well. I have nothing against Hawaii, and sure Boise pulled off a win for the ages last year against Oklahoma. But last year's Boise team and this year's Hawaii team are not even close.
