MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's tennis coach Dale Short announced the signing of Marco Born to scholarship papers this week.
Born, a transfer from Tennessee Tech, played No. 1 singles for TTU as a freshman in 2004, compiling 11 wins, including winning nine of his final 12 matches. The Hannover, Germany, native dropped a 4-6, 4-6, decision to Georgia's 14th-ranked Bo Hodge in the first round of the NCAA Team Championships. He also dropped three-set decisions to Chad Harris of Vanderbilt and Lee Taylor Walker of Memphis, as well as a 2-6, 6-7, tilt to Catalin Gard of Ole Miss during the year.
In doubles Born was 12-9 in the spring, including a win over Claes Lindholm and Eric Claesson of Ole Miss.
"I'm really excited about the talent we may have for this upcoming year," Short said. "Marco should be a major asset to the team and possesses a big and solid game."
Born joins fellow signee Jakob Klaeson for the 2004-05 season, Short's 18th at the helm of his alma mater.
