Yes it's a loss, but this is the last bowl that BSU was in ('96 Las Vegas Bowl).

Damond Wilkins caught touchdown passes from two different
quarterbacks and Damon Shea kicked a pair of field goals as
Nevada won its first-ever Las Vegas Bowl by holding off Ball
State, 18-15, to open college football's post-season.

Ball State (8-4) pulled within three on a 27-yard touchdown pass
from Brent Baldwin to Adrian Reese and a two-point conversion
pass to Ed Abernatty with 2:26 to play.

Cardinals cornerback Raphaol Ball recovered an onsides kick at
his own 45. After offsetting penalties negated the first play
from scrimmage, Nevada's DeShone Myles batted down Baldwin's
first-down pass. Baldwin missed a wide-open Marcellus Davis on
second down before Wolf Pack linebacker Mike Crawford
intercepted Baldwin on third down to preserve the victory.

The first-ever game between the schools drew just 10,118 fans,
falling well short of capacity, which is 40,000. The Wolf Pack,
lost the first-ever overtime game to Toledo in last year's Las
Vegas Bowl and dropped the inaugural game in 1992 to Bowling
Green.

Nevada (9-3), the champion of the Big West Conference, took the
opening kickoff and marched 75 yards on eight plays, capped by a
16-yard pass from John Dutton to Wilkins. The Wolf Pack missed
the extra point and led 6-0 just 3:21 into the contest.

Shea booted a 22-yard field goal to extend the lead to 9-0 with
1:04 left in the first quarter, but Ball State, the Mid American
Conference champions, pulled within 9-7 on a 62-yard run by Karl
Moore 2:08 into the second quarter. Moore burst off tackle on
the right side and shed a couple of tacklers before racing down
the sideline.

Shea pushed the lead to 12-7 with a 33-yard field goal with 44
seconds left in the first half. After a scoreless third
quarter, Eric Bennett, who replaced Dutton after he threw two
interceptions, flipped a middle screen pass to Wilkins, who
rumbled in from 11 yards out to cap the Nevada scoring with
12:52 to play.

Wilkins finished with 10 receptions for 106 yards, while
Geoffrey Noisy and Trevor Insley combined for 14 catches for 258
yards. The Wolf Pack improved to 2-3 all-time in bowl games and
won a post-season contest for the first time since defeating
North Texas in the 1948 Salad Bowl.

Ball State fell to 0-2 in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Cardinals,
who are 0-3 all-time in bowl games, also lost to Utah State in
1993, 42-33.
