Come out and say who you'd guess Gonzaga would join?
PAC--in their wildest dreams
Big East--See PAC plus add a million miles to it
AAC--Do they have DIRECT flights from Spokane to Greenville or Wichita or Stoors?
WAC-Zags like New Mexico St a lot? Maybe Chicago St?
Big West-get that Hawaii market for recruits?
Big Sky-uh. Uh Uh.
ACC-Duke vs Gonzaga would be an instant classic. So would Notre Dame vs Zags
MWC-Simply doesn't make any sense geographically or economically for zags.
WCC-stay the course. Then what the heck have we been talking about this whole time and why? Gonzaga: say you are staying the course please. End the rumors!

The geography in the MWC is not that difficult compared to the WCC.

No offense Joe, but was that a college kid writing that article. He made several mistakes. I get his point, but I could list several errors in that linked article.

billybobby,

It's just another perspective on the topic...

Apparently your perspective was misunderstood on your last post as well...

I was trying not to be too harsh, but it seemed like the writer was a Boise St college kid hoping for Gonzaga to join. He said the PAC 12 was a 2 bid conference and that this move would make the MWC the best conference in the West. He said Gonzaga would get more tv exposure in the MWC. Well, the PAC is the best in the West and a 3 Bid conference and Gonzaga has their games on ESPN while the MWC has to play all of its top games on cbs-SN for 2 more years until this contract ends. Just a few of the inaccuracies...

You need to read the polls a bit more closely. Assuming this thing has a hope in heel of making the ballot (which it doesn't)
1) no proposal to split California has any chance
2) half the counties in New California are Democrat or Democrat leaning, and even more would vote against a split.
3) this looks like a looming Democrat wave election. A number of Republicans in potentially competitive districts are choosing to retire in advance. Would not shock me if 1/3rd of the sitting Republican districts in California flipped (put legislature at over 75% Democrat, same for US House representation)

Note: It is interesting that Ted Cruz is said to be extremely nervous about his reelection in Texas, frantically raising money and is planning for a close race and tough fight -- if he sees trouble in red Texas, it could be a bloodbath for the GOP across the heartland.

The irony is, if the Democratic sweep flips Texas' Statehouse, you could see the Bathroom bill repealed, ending California's ban on state funded travel. (I don't expect Texas to flip, but it could get "purple-ish" ... demographic trends say a flip is more likely 12 to 15 years away)

Calm down. The comment was only made in jest.

I don’t have a habit of keeping up with California polls and politics. An illegal immigrant just got appointed to a state commission, and she said it was about time they had rights too.

I’ve been saying it for awhile. PAC takes Hawaii and New Mexico (Flagship thing) in football and Gonzaga for hoops. Hawaii: FB only. Zags: Olympics. NM: all sports
Or slap Nevada in there for New Mexico. PAC likes the big state schools

Let's don't get ridiculous. The PAC-12 has had an awful season in basketball and not much better in football. But the talent is still there as illustrated by the 2018 top 50 team national recruiting rankings for basketball in the 247sports rankings:

2)Oregon
3)UCLA
15)USC
19)Arizona State
31)Stanford
35)Cal
37)Washington
42)Utah

Arizona has lost its recruiting class due to the FBI investigation. They would normally be in the top 5. Last season they were #3 in the nation in basketball recruiting per 247sports.

The MWC and the WCC do not have a school in the top 50. Some of the other rankings:

54)Santa Clara
55)Gonzaga
56)UNLV
60)San Diego State
62)USF

Obviously, the rankings don't always equate to performance. But the point is the PAC-12 is still doing a good job of recruiting talent. They don't need Gonzaga's help to improve the talent. They could use a few more coaches like Mark Few.

Not sure where, but Nevada was top 50.

RE: Gonzaga and the MWC have talked?
CBS seems to have confirmed Ziegler.

And my analysis looks correct, it's all about GU wanting to keep Few. Or at least Dodd has surmised the same thing 'There is a general feeling that Gonzaga will do whatever Few feels is best for the program. '

It's not a done deal. And Gonzaga AD Mike Roth says, "This isn't a no-brainer decision for us by any stretch."

March 20th is when Butler accepted the Big East invite, and last year: April 7th Wichita State formally accepted the AAC invite, May 25th Valpo joined the MVC, and after that on Jun 28th IUPUI joined the Horizon (July 1st start date!). I think Wichita State is the closer date to follow. I think May 1st is the farthest it can go

I'm hopeful this gets pulled off this year. 06-basketball 04-deal

RE: Gonzaga and the MWC have talked?
Question is what the WCC does.

Do they go all-in for one last run at remaining a relevant, multi-bid conference and add Denver, Seattle, and bite the institutional bullet on Grand Canyon?

Or do they waive the white flag and add only Seattle?
