RE: Former Auburn QB Woody Barrett transfers to Kent State
Seems like a big get. His juco numbers were solid not amazing last year. It sounds like he redshirted in 2016 at Auburn then transferred to JUCO last summer. So I'm assuming he has 3 years of eligibility?

It looks like we lost the other Juco Qb we'd recruited, Shane Johnson. Looks like he's headed to Texas a&m as a "preferred walk on".

Agreed... and a big guy too... 6’2”, 235. I believe that’s correct, 3 years eligibility.

The article says he was a former 4 star recruit. Have we ever gotten a recruit above three stars, juco or otherwise?

His JUCO numbers last fall were not impressive (i.e. under 50% completions). But obviously the potential to perform at the FBS level is there. He had offers from numerous elite programs including Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame and of course Auburn coming out of HS.

RE: Former Auburn QB Woody Barrett transfers to Kent State
The poor completion % is definitely concerning. When it comes to JC without watching their games it's tough to know if he's playing poorly if his teammates aren't that good, or if it's a combination of both. I will say this, Rivals has 11 recruits in the 2018 class from Copiah-Lincoln C.C. Barrett is one of only two that are offensive players. The other is a 6'0" 175 lb. WR that signed with Florida Atlantic and he only had 14 catches for 200 yards and 1 td. So the optimist would say he didn't have anything around him and the pessimist would say he couldn't make the players around him better. What I do know, he seems like a much more dynamic rusher than any QB we had coming back so we could have a multi-dimensional rushing attach with him Rankin, Mathews, the bruiser in Gamble and the speedy slot receivers in Carrigan, Price, and hopefully Dixon. I really thought that was Haynes' plan on offense and everything fell apart when Holley went down.
I will say I was disappointed to see we lost Shane Johnson. He had some pretty good looking JUCO stats and I liked his highlights.
My guess is Barrett ends up somewhere on the scale between Josh Cribbs and Tra'von Chapman. Hopefully on the higher end of that.

Let's hope the coaching staff can coach up all of the Qb candidates we have Barrett may have a lot of potential - but I had my hopes up when we got M Machen from Bama and he was a total bust.

If I remember correctly, Machen was not very mobile. Barrett has that ability which should lend itself to SL's offense. Plus a guy named Edelman came in and took Machen's job.

Saw that KSU plays Auburn next year. That should be exciting for Woody Barrett!
