So it really is tough to say who is the best out of those three. It is easy to say however, that Caver is doing an awesome job and is just the type of point guard THIS team needs.
Drew was not as good of a scorer and Trey was not as good of a distributor. Caver is much more well rounded than either by a long shot. Not taking away from either as Caver may not have been the right guy for Drew's teams where risks were unwanted and he certainly couldn't have alone carried the team to the number of wins Trey did as he is not a consistent shooter.

Drew was a fantastic game manager that neither made mistakes nor took many risks. Trey was a scoring machine that carried the team for 2 years.

No doubt that Caver is a very good PG, and we're all happy to have him. In my opinion, the old guy doing radio color commentary for ODU is the best ODU PG that I have ever seen.

04-cheers Yup, me too.

I agree with that on all counts monarx. I'd take any of the three of them (Caver, Williamson, or Freeman) on ODU's team anytime, and they each have/had their own strengths in their game.

I really wish that some of the many younger ODU fans (younger than me anyway) could have had the chance to see Twardzik play at ODU. Same could be said about some other guys like Washington, Valentine, Mcadoo, West, and Gattison from the 70's to the mid 80's.

Wow, I remember all of them playing at ODU. That was back-in-the-day when a college sports star seemed bigger than life to me. They just had that gravitas or aura of something special. The pro careers many of them had, also clearly demonstrated that they were great on the biggest stage possible. Anyone else remember Dave T. on the cover of Sports Illustrated when the Trail Blazers won it all. Great memories and I am still looking forward to some more before I complete my transition to complete senility.

I agree. It is difficult to grade Freeman's ability to distribute when he was surrounded by so many teammates that were so poor at finishing.

Drew became a better shooter later in his career. I still remember that game winner he hit at the TED against GMU.

Caver's best may be yet to come. I would not be surprised to see him playing some shooting guard at times during some games next year with Kithcart in at the point, especially if they want to take full advantage of Kithcart's speed going up court. I would enjoy seeing Jeff ramp things up even more next season offensively - and defensively as well.

Yeah. Joel Copeland is another one that I should have included. He was awesome. I miss watching all of those guys playing at ODU. Don't think I saw the magazine with Dave on the cover that you mentioned.

Frank Smith needs to be in the conversation re: all time great ODU point guards. He is still ranked like #6 in NCAA career assists with 883.

I do love Ahmad's game and I think it may be the most well rounded between he, Williamson, and Freeman.

RE: Charlotte
Caver is most certainly in the early running for CUSA POY. Defense, assists and scoring. He does it all. Our best player.

That said, we will probably never have another Dave T. Simply the best. 20 assists in one game, are you kidding me? 22 made foul shots in another, come on!
