NCAA D1 Northwestern State (LA) is traveling to play NAIA DI LSU Shreveport today. This is an "overlap" game, where a high NAIA school is roughly the same level as a lower D1. LSUS is 12-1 and rated #2 in the NAIA, while NSU is 3-5, including a 67-56 home win over NAIA Lyon (3-6). Its very rare for an NCAA D1 to travel to play an NAIA school. Technically this isn't a home game because it's in an arena in Shreveport, not LSUS's home gym, but it is their territory.

Game time is 5pm today. You can watch this on your big screen TV if you have AppleTV, Amazon Fire or Roku by downloading the NAIA Network app (free). You can also watch on your computer at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/lsus/ or at https://collegetvticket.com/schedule/index/page/2.

Loyola with a bad 17-point loss to Milwaukee. Their win against Florida has lost some luster too since the Gators are probably out of the top 25 after today's loss. UNI is looking like the Valley's best shot at an at-large bid.

Georgetown would have to win 20 games to even sniff the NIT with the putrid SOS this year.
NIT can fudge the nums to take a Georgetown team...they are a good draw as an opponent.

it's stopped being about that several years ago. it's now based on quality. remember all the conference champs that don't make the tourney get auto NIT bids.
Georgetown has really almost no chance at an NIT. At 18-11 their RPI is 99.
Remember a few years ago Marquette went 20-13 with a bad SOS OOC. Not as bad as Georgetown- and they didn't sniff the NIT. Creighton went 18-14 that year with a mediocre OOC SOS and they were like a 4 seed. It's definitely not like it used to be where if you finished 16-15 from Big East or other major conference you made the NIT.

Loved seeing the Aggies prevail on Lou Henson Night at the United Center - predictably, Illini fans are crying that this was on the schedule. LOL.
Pistol Pete is such an iconic logo. So proud of NMSU for keeping him!

Think so? I think there's a special kind of hatred for for-profit schools who have different options to become competitive. The higher ed way of handling that is...acting like they don't exist.
Well lets see, Louisville, Arizona, Duke and now the MW schools don't mind playing them.
1) Just because a team will schedule another team, doesn't mean they want to associate in a conference.
2) A lot of that is favors to Jerry Colangelo, and won't likely be repeated in the future (i.e. now that Jurich is out at Louisville, that personal avenue is gone, etc.)
We aren't talking conference affiliation, it's about scheduling and that the more GCU is competitive they will get bigger names to play them more.
Also forgot to Illinois scheduled them also.
Have you seen their RPI? The WAC is still NMSU and the rest. Bakersfield have a better program then GCU right now. I'm not real sure why GCU gets pumped up by so many when they really haven't done anything but get their big pocket contributor to pay for big names to play in Phoenix, not on the GCU campus, in Phoenix.

Not a chance, their SOS and RPI aren't getting them any NCAA love and I doubt they win 4 conference games.

How bout an avatar bet? If Georgetown doesn't make the NIT/NCAA I sport a Rutgers avatar for March Madness. If they make either you sport a Cuse avatar? Winner supplies the loser the avatar to post.

RE: Laughable College Basketball Scores- Week 4
Georgetown has really little shot at the NIT. Remember, the NIT is not based on ticket sales any longer. It's 100% on merit(plus regular season conference champions who lose in conference tourney). Folks want to continually forget that fact. For Georgetown to get even a 75 RPI(which would be fringe NIT)- they need to get 20 wins(10 in conference).
What's so funny about Georgetown with their RPI-
19 wins- 86.7 RPI (9 conf)
20 wins- 70.5 RPI (10)
21 wins- 52.9 RPI (11)
So it may be a very narrow path to get in the NIT for Georgetown. Because 19 and they're out of NIT, but 21 they could easily with 11 BE wins this year make the NCAA tourney.

It's merit based but it is still slanted toward bigger programs.

Not really though. I mean just 2 years ago we saw Marquette miss it despite having 20 wins. Why? Because of a horrible OOC SOS. That's the easiest comparison I have.
