They are literally a bottom feeding basketball program. All that schools has ever had going for it is large football attendance and a good baseball program. The AAC should have just stuck to 10 teams and not invited them and Tulsa.

Living in North Carolina for nearly 14 years I know how passionate the football fan base is and they have a nice stadium that typically draws well. When it comes to basketball season, that fan base disappears. It's really like an afterthought.

I remember reading something about ECU and how the average season ticket holder drives over 90 minutes to get to a game. I imagine to see an RPI 342 basketball team, not worth it.

UCLA nearly choked away a 20 pt lead over South Dakota State in the last 4 minutes of the game last night-- held on for an 85-82 win.

Have to wonder if Alford's days are numbered out in LA.

Alfords problem has been inconsistenty with his recruiting classes. He has been pulling in super classes every other year or every 2 years, with one and doners not sticking around. This has been leaving holes in his rosters on the down years. Unless you can recruit year in and year out at that level like Coach K or Cal, it is hard to do. It looks like he is actually trying to establish a true foundation now, but it may take another year or 2 for it to be where it needs to be. I'm not sure if UCLA fans are that patient. They have not had a good hire in a long time.

I browsed their boards after our victory the other night... of course it was typical internet fodder, but the natives were restless even before our game. If you remember Lavar Ball took a few shots before pulling LiMelo out of school.. they were all saying perhaps Ball was right.

They have a very short leash out there. A few years ago they fired Ben Howland after taking the Bruins to three straight Final Fours and winning 4 PAC10 titles.

Jfc Florida is bad...they're lucky they have built in conference games against so many top 100 teams to help their seeding.

Those games happen... Everyone has the occasional flub up, where you can't shoot to save your life. Especially in December. The fortunate part of that four game stretch, is we've seemed to find our identity. Now, we need to roll as many teams as possible in conference and I think we can beat every team we'll meet. I also think, SMU is hitting a point where they'll be a tough out, Wichita State will still be pretty good and then Temple and Houston aren't too shabby either. I like our chances of securing a regular season title.

Houston is quietly having a good pre-conference season:

Houston (10-2) 70
Providence (8-4) 59

No, you don't need to rub your eyes:

Evansville (10-3) 40
4 Duke (12-1) 104

Houston did enough in the non-conference to put themselves into NCAA tournament consideration. Wins over Wake Forest, Arkansas, and Providence gives them a solid resume. The American is going to be four to five bid league this year. I believe Cincinnati, SMU, and Wichita State will all have 14 or more league wins and will be seed 7 or better. Houston and Temple have a chance to get into the field as well if they can get 12 and 11 wins respectively. UCF has an outside shot as well but I don't see them finishing in the top four. UConn, Tulsa, Tulane, and Memphis just need to avoid complete meltdowns as they should stay in the 75 to 175 rang in computer rankings which actually pretty solid for teams 7 through 10 in this conference. The best thing I can say about USF and ECU is that the Cats only play them one time each.

The Missouri Valley is actually right on the heels of the American as the 8th rated league and could find themselves with at-large bid this year. The A-10 is awful and could be a one bid league. The Mountain West and WCC both look like they could two bid leagues this year.

Agree with your assessment. I'm a Mike Dunleavy fan and just having a conversation with Tulane in it is a good thing for our conference. I predict bigger things from them in the coming seasons.

I think Gregory will make the Bulls at least respectable in a couple years. As for ECU, I wouldn't mind if we made a trade with them for WKU or Marshall.

It was their first win ever over a ranked team.

Wofford gave Cronin his first loss ever at UC, even as Deonta Vaughn went off for 30-something.

UNC will be fine. Fans always overreact to one or two bad games in the course of a long long season.

I was at that game. I think Deonta had 5 or 6 3’s. I remember thinking Wofford was pretty good- what are they the Terriers? Anyways Wofford was good that year for a mid-major which equals decent. Problem was although we played hard we just flat out sucked that year.
